Since 2012, the Asset Owners Disclosure Project (AODP) has ranked and rated the largest 1000 asset owners on how they manage climate risk in their investment portfolios. 2015 marks the first time the AODP has created a spin-off index, which focuses solely on universities.
The AODP’s methodology focuses on the financial risks that climate change poses to asset owners’ portfolios, as opposed to ethical investment decisions that simply screen for fossil fuels. This risk-based approach is concerned with the preparedness of investors for the sudden repricing of high climate-impact assets due to regulatory or technological developments.
Although universities have previously been ranked as part of the AODP’s Global Climate Index, the Global Universities Index (GUI) expands upon this work, rating 259 new universities across five continents.
